The FTA’s 2018 Excellence in Flexography Awards were held recently and Kodak customers took home over 20 awards across a variety of categories. The awards are significant because they not only determine some of the best in flexo printing but they also gauge print quality capabilities for the flexo industry in general. Based on the results, flexo’s print capabilities have officially transformed.
The awards are held by the Flexographic Technology Association (FTA) each year, part of the annual FTA Forum & INFOFLEX, a four-day mix of education and showcasing for which Kodak is a proud Diamond sponsor; it is tailored to all who reside within the flexographic supply chain. The award categories span a variety of applications and groupings including wide web, mid web, narrow web, combined corrugated, preprinted linerboard, envelope, self-promotion, non-traditional, college student and high school student.
Since Kodak launched the FLEXCEL NX System in 2008 (it’s our ten year anniversary by the way) flexo has gone through a tremendous transformation. Our pioneering flat-top dot technology and micro engineered plate surface patterning has given way to continued innovations that our customers leverage every day to raise the capabilities of flexo and compete head-on with other print processes, such as gravure, offset and digital, across a myriad of applications.
Kodak customer Visual Communication Tech (VCT) Co-owner Todd Morrison states, “It doesn’t take a lot of convincing to get customers to see the value of FLEXCEL NX for their high-quality jobs. What surprises our customers, however, is how consistent and cost-effective it is for daily jobs, even those that don’t require the highest quality. It is difficult for some to believe they don’t have to compromise between cost-savings and quality.”
In this case, it was VCT that took home the 2018 FTA Flexographic Print Excellence Gold & Best in Show Award for Combined Corrugated, Process, for its BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse carton. VCT’s customer, Proactive Packaging produced the award-winning carton. The judges stated it was its, “beautiful execution of process print over white ink on kraft,” that most impressed them. The win is not only significant for the trade shop, printer and brand involved but it underscores Kodak’s abilities to meet the needs across the flexo supply chain and elevate flexo’s capabilities no matter what the application.
Most importantly, these results aren’t just possible under certain, specified circumstances, they are achievable in routine production – so savings and productivity gains are consistent as well. Congratulations to all the winners of the Excellence in Flexography Awards and to the Kodak FLEXCEL NX users that are driving profitable growth for their businesses.
